Bats are fantastic flyers—and now you can make one that flaps! Create your own crafty bat, then pull the strings to send its wings into action.
Materials
- bat pattern
- black cardstock paper
- large drinking straw cut in half
- tape
- large black pom-pom
- black felt
- craft glue
- two googly eyes
Steps
- Make the bat. Download and print the bat pattern. Trace it onto black paper and cut it out. Fold each wing along the dotted lines to make creases, then unfold
- Add the strings. Cut two 16-inch pieces of yard or string. Thread both strands through the straw.
- Attach the strings and straw. Tape the top end of each strand to the bat’s wings, as shown. Then tape the straw in place to the bat’s body.
- Make the face. Glue on a pom-pom head. Cut two small triangle ears from felt. Glue the ears and two googly eyes onto the pom-pom.
- Make it flap. Hold the straw while you gently pull the strings to watch your bat flap its wings!
