Build a hanging owl decoration from paper plates, paint, and felt. This craft uses stapled plates for a 3D body with foldable wings and a tilted head.
Time: 30 minutes
Difficulty Level: Medium
Materials
- 4 paper plates
- Brown paint
- Colored felt or construction paper (for eyes and beak)
- Yarn (for hanging)
- Glue
Tools
- Scissors
- Stapler
- Paintbrush
Steps
- Make the body. Face two paper plates, backsides out. Staple the rims together.
- Make the wings. To make each wing, bend (don’t crease) another paper plate in half and staple it along the rim. Staple each wing near the top of the owl’s body.
- Make the head. For the head, fold over about one-third of a plate and staple it. Staple the head to the body.
- Paint. Paint the entire owl brown and let it dry.
- Add the face. Cut large circles from felt or paper for eyes and a triangle for the beak. Glue them onto the head.
- Hang it up. Slip a piece of yarn under the fold in the head. Knot the ends together to make a hanger. Hang your owl where you can watch it watch you!
