This easy layered dessert creates zebra stripes by alternating chocolate pudding and whipped topping in a clear glass. It takes minutes to make, looks impressive, and kids love scooping through the layers.

Prep Time: 10 minutes

Cook Time: 0 minutes (plus 30 minutes chill time)

Total Time: 40 minutes

Servings: 2-4

Difficulty Level: Easy

Ingredients

  • 1 small box of instant chocolate pudding mix
  • 2 cups milk (for the pudding)
  • 1 cup whipped topping or whipped cream

Allergy notes: Contains dairy. May contain soy (check pudding mix label).

Substitutions:

  • Dairy-free? Use coconut milk and dairy-free whipped topping.
  • No chocolate pudding? Vanilla pudding works too. You’ll get a vanilla-and-cream layered dessert.
  • For a healthier version, layer chocolate yogurt with vanilla yogurt.

Steps

  1. Make the pudding. Prepare the chocolate pudding according to package directions. Refrigerate for about 30 minutes until set.
  2. Layer the stripes. In a tall, clear glass or jar, spoon a layer of chocolate pudding, then a layer of whipped topping, then another layer of pudding, and so on. Alternate until the glass is full.
  3. Finish and serve. Top with a final dollop of whipped topping. Serve with a long spoon so kids can dig down through all the layers.

Grownup help needed: Making the pudding (whisking).
