Turn plain cupcakes into walruses with chocolate frosting, marshmallow eyes, and almond tusks. These take about 5 minutes per cupcake to decorate, and they’re a hit at parties and classroom celebrations.

Prep Time: 10 minutes (plus cupcake baking time)

Total Time: 10 minutes to decorate (cupcakes pre-baked)

Servings: As many cupcakes as you make

Difficulty Level: Easy

Ingredients

  • Cupcakes (any flavor, pre-baked and cooled)
  • Chocolate frosting
  • Mini marshmallows
  • Mini chocolate chips
  • Slivered almonds

Allergy notes: Contains dairy, wheat, and tree nuts (almonds). Check cupcake and frosting labels.

Substitutions:

  • No almonds? Use thin pretzel sticks broken to tusk length.
  • No mini marshmallows? Use white frosting dots for eyes.
  • Dairy-free? Use dairy-free frosting and cupcakes.

Steps

  1. Frost the cupcake. Spread a generous layer of chocolate frosting over the top.
  2. Build the muzzle. Add an extra blob of frosting toward the front of the cupcake to create the walrus’s rounded snout.
  3. Make the eyes. Press a mini chocolate chip into each of two mini marshmallows. Place them on the cupcake above the muzzle.
  4. Add the nose. Press a single mini chocolate chip into the center of the muzzle.
  5. Insert the tusks. Push two slivered almonds into the frosting below the muzzle, pointing downward. These are the walrus tusks.
