Start your day with a homemade breakfast bar made with peanut butter, cereal, honey, fruit, and nuts. These take about 10 minutes to put together, and the hardest part is waiting for them to firm up in the fridge.

What You Need

  • 2 cups cereal (any kind you like)
  • 1/2 cup peanut butter
  • 2 tablespoons butter or margarine
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 1/4 cup dried fruit (raisins, cranberries, or chopped apricots)
  • 1/4 cup nuts (chopped peanuts, almonds, or sunflower seeds)

Allergy note: Use sunflower seed butter instead of peanut butter and swap nuts for extra dried fruit or seeds if needed.

What You Do

  1. Melt the butter and peanut butter. Heat them together in a microwave-safe bowl for about 30 seconds, until melted. Stir until smooth. (Grownup help needed for this step.)
  2. Mix in the honey. Stir the honey into the melted peanut butter mixture.
  3. Add the dry ingredients. Pour in the cereal, dried fruit, and nuts. Stir until everything is coated.
  4. Press into a pan. Spoon the mixture into a greased 8″ x 8″ pan. Press it down firmly and evenly with the back of the spoon or your hands.
  5. Chill. Refrigerate until firm, about 1 to 2 hours.
  6. Cut into bars. Slice into rectangles and enjoy.
