Make a simple snow gauge with a polar bear head perched on top of a ruler. After each snowfall, push the gauge into the snow and read how many inches fell. It’s a quick STEM craft that connects kids to winter weather.

Materials
- 1 large white pom-pom (bear head)
- 2 small white pom-poms (ears)
- 1 small black pom-pom (nose)
- 2 mini black pom-poms (eyes)
- 1 ruler (12-inch)
- Craft glue or hot glue
Steps
- Make the ears. Glue the two small white pom-poms to the top of the large white pom-pom.
- Add the face. Glue the small black pom-pom to the front as a nose. Glue the two mini black pom-poms above it as eyes.
- Attach to the ruler. Glue the completed polar bear head to the top of the ruler, at the 12-inch mark, with the bear facing outward.
- Let dry completely.
- Measure the snow. After a snowfall, push the ruler straight down into the snow with the bear on top. Read the measurement where the snow line hits the ruler.
Grownup help needed: Hot glue (if using).
