These sand dollar pancakes turn a regular breakfast into a trip to the beach. Spread cream cheese on a pancake and etch the classic five-point sand dollar pattern with a toothpick. Simple, quick, and fun for ocean-loving kids.

Prep Time: 5 minutes

Cook Time: 15 minutes (for pancakes)

Total Time: 20 minutes

Servings: 4-6 pancakes

Difficulty Level: Easy

Ingredients

  • 4-6 pancakes (from your favorite mix or recipe)
  • 1/4 cup cream cheese, softened
  • 1 toothpick

Allergy notes: Contains wheat, dairy, eggs. Check pancake mix label for additional allergens.

Substitutions:

  • Dairy-free? Use dairy-free cream cheese or vanilla yogurt.
  • Gluten-free? Use your preferred gluten-free pancake mix.
  • No cream cheese? Peanut butter, Nutella, or even plain yogurt can be etched with a toothpick.

Steps

  1. Make the pancakes. Prepare pancakes using your favorite recipe or mix. Let them cool slightly so the cream cheese doesn’t melt.
  2. Spread the cream cheese. Apply a thin, even layer of softened cream cheese across the surface of each pancake.
  3. Draw the sand dollar. Use the toothpick to etch a sand dollar pattern into the cream cheese: draw a five-pointed star in the center, then add a circle around it and five petal shapes radiating outward.
  4. Serve. Arrange on plates and enjoy your beach breakfast.
