Materials

  • 1 paper plate
  • Black, red, and white acrylic paint

  • Craft glue
  • Scissors
  • 1 toilet paper tube
  • Yarn or elastic string
  • Hole punch

Grownup help needed: Cutting craft foam and punching holes for the mask strap.

Steps

  1. Make the mask. Paint the paper plate black. When dry, add white spots and a red eye using paint. Cut eye holes.
  2. Make the beak. Cut a toilet paper tube in half lengthwise, paint it black, and glue it to the center of the plate below the eye holes.
  3. Add a strap. Punch a hole on each side of the mask. Thread yarn or elastic through and tie it to fit your head.
  4. Make webbed feet. Cut two large webbed-foot shapes from black craft foam. Make them big enough to fit over your shoes. Cut slits at the back so you can slide your feet in.
  5. Make wings. Cut two large wing shapes from black craft foam. Attach yarn loops so they slip over your arms.
  6. Put it all together. Mask on, feet on, wings on. Now walk with a waddle and let out your best loon call!
