Want to make your dog’s day? These homemade frozen dog treats take just three ingredients and about 15 minutes of work. Then pop them in the freezer and wait for the tail-wagging to begin. This is a perfect recipe for kids who love their pets and want to do something kind for them.

Prep Time: 15 minutes

Total Time: 15 minutes active; 3-4 hours for treats to freeze

Servings: About 12 treats (depending on mold size)

Difficulty Level: Easy

Ingredients

  • 1 ripe banana
  • 1 cup plain yogurt (about 2 small containers)
  • 1 tablespoon peanut butter

Important pet safety notes:

  • Use plain yogurt only, not flavored. Flavored yogurt can contain xylitol, an artificial sweetener that is extremely dangerous for dogs.
  • Use regular peanut butter. Check the label to make sure it does NOT contain xylitol. Most major brands are safe, but always read the ingredients.
  • Make sure your banana is ripe. It’s easier to mash and dogs love the sweetness.

Substitutions:

  • No peanut butter? Use sunflower seed butter or just leave it out. The banana and yogurt are plenty on their own.
  • No yogurt? Use plain pumpkin puree (canned, not pie filling) mixed with a splash of water.
  • No ice cube trays? Use a muffin tin, silicone molds, or even small paper cups.

Steps

  1. Mash the banana. Peel the banana and mash it in a large bowl with a fork until it’s smooth and mushy.
  2. Add the yogurt. Scoop the plain yogurt into the bowl with the banana.
  3. Add the peanut butter. Drop in one tablespoon of peanut butter.
  4. Mix it all together. Stir everything until the mixture is smooth and well combined.
  5. Pour into molds. Carefully spoon or pour the mixture into ice cube trays, silicone molds, or small cups.
  6. Freeze. Place the tray in the freezer for at least 3-4 hours, or overnight, until the treats are completely solid.
  7. Serve to your pup. Pop a treat out of the mold and give it to your dog on a warm day. Watch that tail go!

Grownup help needed: This recipe is kid-safe! No knives, no heat. Younger kids may need help spooning the mixture into molds without spilling.
