Blue-footed boobies are famous for their bright blue feet and the hilarious dance they do to show them off. In this craft, you’ll make your own pair of blue booby feet, strap them on, and learn the real blue-footed booby dance that these birds perform in the wild.

Materials

  • 2 sheets of blue craft foam
  • Blue yarn or ribbon (two pieces, about 18 inches each)
  • Black marker

Don’t have blue craft foam? Blue construction paper or cardboard painted blue works too. You can also trace your own foot shape and add three big pointed toes to make it look like a booby foot.

Tools

  • Scissors (grownup help needed for younger kids)
  • Hole punch

Steps

  1. Draw the feet. Draw two large booby foot shapes on the blue craft foam. Each foot should have three long, pointed, webbed toes. Make them bigger than your own feet so you can stand on them.
  2. Cut out the feet. Carefully cut out both feet along the lines you drew.
  3. Add toe lines. Use the black marker to draw lines between the toes to show the webbing, just like a real booby foot.
  4. Punch the holes. Use a hole punch to make two holes near the back of each foot, one on each side. These are where the ribbon goes to hold the feet on.
  5. Thread the ribbon. Push one piece of ribbon or yarn through both holes on one foot. Do the same with the other piece on the second foot.
  6. Tie them on. Step onto a foam foot and tie the ribbon around your ankle. Do the same with the other foot. You’re ready to dance!

Grownup help needed: Younger kids may need help cutting the foam and punching holes.
