These cookies look just like raccoon tails, complete with dark chocolate stripes! They’re a simple sugar cookie base shaped into long tails and decorated with drizzled chocolate rings. Fun to make, fun to eat, and a great way to talk about one of the most clever animals in the neighborhood!
Ingredients
- 4 tablespoons butter (softened)
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1 egg
- 1 cup flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- pinch of salt
- 1/2 cup chocolate chips (for drizzling)
Steps
- Mix the dough. Cream the butter and brown sugar together. Add the egg and mix well. Stir in the flour, baking powder, and salt until a dough forms.
- Shape the tails. Roll small portions of dough into long, tapered tail shapes, thicker at one end and narrow at the other. Place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Bake. Bake at 375°F for about 10 minutes, until the edges are lightly golden. Let cool completely on the pan.
- Add stripes. Melt the chocolate chips in a microwave-safe bowl (30 seconds at a time, stirring between). Drizzle the melted chocolate across the cooled cookies in ring patterns to mimic raccoon tail stripes.
- Let chocolate set. Wait for the chocolate to harden (pop them in the fridge to speed this up), then serve.
