These cookies look just like raccoon tails, complete with dark chocolate stripes! They’re a simple sugar cookie base shaped into long tails and decorated with drizzled chocolate rings. Fun to make, fun to eat, and a great way to talk about one of the most clever animals in the neighborhood!

Ingredients

  • 4 tablespoons butter (softened)
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • pinch of salt
  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips (for drizzling)

Steps

  1. Mix the dough. Cream the butter and brown sugar together. Add the egg and mix well. Stir in the flour, baking powder, and salt until a dough forms.
  2. Shape the tails. Roll small portions of dough into long, tapered tail shapes, thicker at one end and narrow at the other. Place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  3. Bake. Bake at 375°F for about 10 minutes, until the edges are lightly golden. Let cool completely on the pan.
  4. Add stripes. Melt the chocolate chips in a microwave-safe bowl (30 seconds at a time, stirring between). Drizzle the melted chocolate across the cooled cookies in ring patterns to mimic raccoon tail stripes.
  5. Let chocolate set. Wait for the chocolate to harden (pop them in the fridge to speed this up), then serve.
