Turn plain cupcakes into walruses with chocolate frosting, marshmallow eyes, and almond tusks. These take about 5 minutes per cupcake to decorate, and they’re a hit at parties and classroom celebrations.
Prep Time: 10 minutes (plus cupcake baking time)
Total Time: 10 minutes to decorate (cupcakes pre-baked)
Servings: As many cupcakes as you make
Difficulty Level: Easy
Ingredients
- Cupcakes (any flavor, pre-baked and cooled)
- Chocolate frosting
- Mini marshmallows
- Mini chocolate chips
- Slivered almonds
Allergy notes: Contains dairy, wheat, and tree nuts (almonds). Check cupcake and frosting labels.
Substitutions:
- No almonds? Use thin pretzel sticks broken to tusk length.
- No mini marshmallows? Use white frosting dots for eyes.
- Dairy-free? Use dairy-free frosting and cupcakes.
Steps
- Frost the cupcake. Spread a generous layer of chocolate frosting over the top.
- Build the muzzle. Add an extra blob of frosting toward the front of the cupcake to create the walrus’s rounded snout.
- Make the eyes. Press a mini chocolate chip into each of two mini marshmallows. Place them on the cupcake above the muzzle.
- Add the nose. Press a single mini chocolate chip into the center of the muzzle.
- Insert the tusks. Push two slivered almonds into the frosting below the muzzle, pointing downward. These are the walrus tusks.
