Make a Shark Hat: A Wearable Craft for Kids

Become the ocean’s top predator with this wearable shark hat! Built from craft foam, this shark fits right over your head with open jaws, pointy teeth, and googly eyes. It’s the perfect craft for shark week, ocean-themed parties, or just a regular Tuesday.

Materials

• Gray (or blue), black, and white craft foam sheets
• Scissors
• Craft glue or a stapler
• Shark hat pattern (downloadable PDF)
• A pencil

Grownup help needed: Cutting thick craft foam and stapling the headband.

Shark Hat Pattern

Steps

1. Use the pattern to cut the shark’s head out of the gray or blue craft foam. Cut the shark’s mouth out of the black foam.
2. Glue the mouth onto the shark’s head.
3. Cut small triangles out of the white foam to make the shark’s teeth. Glue the teeth onto the mouth, as shown.
4. Use the pattern to cut the shark’s eyes out of black and white foam. Glue the eyes onto the shark’s head. Set aside to dry completely.
5. Cut a 2″ x 18″ strip of gray or blue foam. Staple the ends of the strip together to make a headband. Trim the excess foam.
6. Staple the base of the shark’s head to the front of the headband.
7. Chomp away!
