
Toucans are some of the most colorful birds in the rainforest, and now you can look just like one! This easy paper craft turns construction paper, feathers, and googly eyes into a toucan headband you can wear. Grab a grownup to help with cutting and stapling, and let’s get started.
Materials
- 1 sheet of yellow construction paper
- 1 sheet of light green construction paper
- 1 sheet of black construction paper
- Crayons or markers (orange, red, and black work great)
- Black feathers (craft feathers from any craft store, or cut feather shapes from black paper)
- Glue stick
- 2 large googly eyes (or draw your own on white paper circles)
- Scissors (grownup help needed)
- Stapler (grownup help needed)

Toucan Headband Pattern
Steps
- Print the pattern. Download and print the toucan headband pattern.
- Cut the head shape. Cut out the toucan head shape from yellow paper using the pattern.
- Cut the bill shape. Cut out the toucan bill shape from green paper using the pattern.
- Color the bill. Use markers or crayons to make it look bright and tropical. Try orange, red, and yellow stripes, just like a real toucan’s beak.
- Glue the bill together. Glue the two bill pieces together.
- Attach the bill. Glue the finished bill between the two head pieces.
- Add feathers. Glue black feathers onto the top of the head.
- Add eyes. Stick on the googly eyes.
- Make the headband. Cut a strip of black paper that is 2 inches wide and 12 inches long.
- Fit and staple. Wrap the strip around your child’s head to check the fit, then staple the ends together to make the headband.
- Attach the toucan. Staple the completed toucan head to the front of the headband. Put it on and show off your toucan style!
Grownup help needed: Steps 1-3 (cutting) and steps 10-11 (stapling) work best with adult hands. Younger kids can focus on the coloring, gluing, and decorating.
