This easy owl craft turns a simple foam shape into a feathery friend that hangs right on your doorknob. When someone comes to visit, your owl will be there to ask, “Whoooo’s there?” All you need are a few supplies, a printable template, and some imagination.
Materials
Supplies:
- Pre-cut foam door hanger (or a foam sheet to make your own)
- Orange and brown craft foam
- Black and tan felt
- 2 googly eyes
- Glue (white craft glue or a glue stick)
Owl Door Hanger Pattern
Tools:
- Scissors (grownup help needed)
- Marker
- Printer for the template
Don’t have fun foam? Construction paper or cardstock works, too. You can also use buttons or draw your own eyes instead of googly eyes.
Steps
- Print the template. Print out the owl door hanger pattern on regular paper. Cut out each pattern piece along the lines.
- Trace and cut the foam pieces. Place the body, head, and wing shapes on your craft foam. Trace around them with a marker, then cut them out.
- Trace and cut the felt pieces. Place the eye circles, beak, ear tufts, and feet shapes on your felt. Trace and cut them out.
- Glue the body and wings. Attach the orange body piece to the front of the door hanger. Press the wings onto the body and the head above it. Let the glue dry for a minute before moving on.
- Add the face and feet. Glue the felt eye circles onto the head, then stick a googly eye in the center of each one. Add the black felt triangles for the beak and ear tufts. Glue the tan felt feet at the bottom.
- Make the speech bubble. Cut a speech-bubble shape from a leftover piece of foam. Write “Whoooo’s there?” on it with your marker, then glue it next to your owl’s beak.
Grownup help needed: Younger kids may need help with cutting foam and felt, since these materials can be tough to cut through. A grownup should handle any tricky trimming.
