Musk oxen look like they belong in the Ice Age, with their massive curved horns and shaggy fur that hangs almost to the ground. This easy musk ox drawing breaks down their wild look into just 4 simple steps. Start with the horns and work your way down.

- Markers, crayons, or colored pencils (for coloring)
Steps
Step 1: Draw the Horns and Head
Start with the horns. Draw two curved lines that come together at the top like the top of a heart shape. These are the musk ox’s big, curved horns. They sweep down on each side, then curve back upward at the tips. Below the horns, draw a rounded shape for the head, connecting the base of the horns. The head sits right between and beneath the two horn curves.
Step 2: Add the Body
Draw the shaggy body. From the head, extend the body to the left with a curved back line. Musk oxen are big, barrel-shaped animals, so make the body wide and heavy. Along the bottom, draw a long, wavy or jagged line for the skirt of shaggy fur that hangs down.
Step 3: Add the Legs and Ears
Draw four sturdy legs. Musk ox legs are short and thick, and they peek out from under all that hanging fur. Draw the legs poking below the shaggy skirt line, with wide hooves at the bottom. Space them out, two in front and two in back. Add two triangle-shaped ears.
Step 4: Add the Face and Details
Draw the face. Add two small eyes on the head, placed on either side of a central line. Draw a small nose near the bottom of the face. The face has a heart-like shape framed by the horns above.
Color it in. Musk oxen are dark brown to almost black, with lighter brown or cream-colored patches on the legs and a pale “saddle” on the back. The horns are yellowish-brown, lighter at the tips. The undercoat peeking through can be lighter brown.
