
Fireflies are one of summer’s most magical sights, lighting up backyards and fields on warm evenings. With this easy craft, you can create your own glowing firefly to celebrate these fascinating insects.
Materials
- Clear, empty glass or plastic jar
- Yellow tissue paper
- Black, red, and yellow felt or craft foam
- Two googly eyes
- One black pipe cleaner
- Craft glue
- Scissors
- Battery operated LED tea light

Firefly Pattern
Steps
- Cover the jar with color. Cut or tear the tissue paper into small pieces. Glue them onto the outside of the jar until it is completely covered.
- Create Your Firefly. Download and print out the firefly pattern. Cut the firefly’s wings, body parts, and head out of felt or craft foam. Glue them onto the jar, as shown.
- Add some eyes. Glue two googly eyes to the firefly’s head.
- Make the antennas. Cut two 3-inch pieces from the pipe cleaner. Bend them to create antenna shapes, then glue them to the back of the firefly’s head.
- Light it up. Turn on the tea light and place it inside the jar. Let it glow!
