cluster of bright yellow dandelions

No supplies, no cost, no cleanup. A dandelion chain is one of the simplest nature crafts there is, and kids have been making them for generations. All you need is a patch of dandelions with long stems and a few minutes outside.

Materials

  • Fresh dandelions with long stems (the longer the better!)
  • That’s it!

Steps

  1. Pick your dandelions. Look for ones with the longest stems you can find. Pick them close to the base of the stem.
  2. Make a slit. Use your thumbnail to make a small slit near the middle of the first dandelion’s stem.
  3. Thread the next one through. Slide the stem of the second dandelion through the slit until the flower head stops it.
  4. Repeat. Make a slit in the second stem and thread the third dandelion through. Keep going until your chain is as long as you want.
  5. Close the loop. To make a crown or bracelet, thread the last stem through a slit in the first dandelion’s stem, connecting the two ends into a circle.
